Rare Beatles 12" Vinyl 'Rubber Soul'. Collectors item 1st pressing.
Condition (Classifications, from which there are many guides online)
Album Sleeve - Very Good (VG) (But does have ballpoint writing on it)
Vinyl side 1 classification - Very Good Plus (VG+)
Vinyl side 2 classification - Very Good (VG)
Summary - The cover has been cleaned lightly and the record with record cleaner and the front and rear have some creases. The rear cover has the owner address written on it from back in 1965 in blue ballpoint ink! The record sleeve cover has some creases and also blue ballpoint in on one side. The record itself has some light surface scratches only typical of the age of the record more so on side 2. Sorry we have no way to test if this plays as it should but with only mild scratches see no reason why it shouldn't play as it should. Apologies not better images, difficult to photograph shiny and black surfaces.

First “Loud Cut” pressing. December 3, 1965.
“Loud Cut” matrces: XEX 579-1 & XEX 580-1. When “Rubber Soul” was initially mixed it was slightly different to how we hear it today. These early mixes only ever appeared in mono and are distinguished by the matrix numbers XEX 579-1 / XEX 580-1 in the deadwax. It’s argued that these early presses were unbalanced with a muddy bass and with an edgy, aggressive vocal sound. Since these copies seemed to lack body the decision was made to halt production whilst the mother plates were re-cut. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print and “Sold in U.K. subject…”text. Tracing-paper-lined “Use Emitex” die-cut inner sleeve. With or without KT tax code on the label. “Loud Cut” copies can be found with both Times New Roman and Sans-serif label types, although Sans-serif is the more common and is likely to have continued production along with the Times New Roman issues.
Matrix Code Information
The matrix code here is for a Parlophone labels record that has ‘XEX 579-1’ stamped on the run off grooves on side one. This tells us that it is a mono recording which is defined by the “XEX” (“YEX” would be a stereo recording) The ‘ 579’ part tells us the product catalogue number for the pressing (and we can work out that this is side one of the vinyl because side two will feature ‘580’ on the run off grooves.) The ‘-1’ part is the important part because we can see what master this vinyl was pressed from -1 being the earliest possible for this particular album pressing.
