Offered for auction is a very good example of the so-called 'loud cut' pressing of Rubber Soul that was available in the UK for a very short space of time in 1965 before being recalled/replaced.
The following information about the 'loud cut' is reproduced from The Beatles Collector online resource (thebeatles-collection . com):
When “Rubber Soul” was initially mixed it was slightly different to how we hear it today. These early mixes only ever appeared in mono and are distinguished by the matrix numbers XEX 579-1 / XEX 580-1 in the deadwax. It’s argued that these early presses were unbalanced with a muddy bass and with an edgy, aggressive vocal sound. Since these copies seemed to lack body the decision was made to halt production whilst the mother plates were re-cut. The matrices of this LP are XEX 579-1 4LO / 580-1 2PL
Please look closely at the provided images of sleeve and label. What is seen is what the winner of the auction will receive.
The side 1 label bears the UK Inland Revenue's KT tax stamp. Both labels have examples of minor wear.
The sleeve is fully intact and without any splits to the seams (including the all-important spine). The LP opening edge is bumped along its entire length resulting in a thin line of wear evident on the front of the sleeve. Backflaps are in excellent order and firmly glued. Ringwear is at a minimum as the images show.
Both sides of the vinyl record play through without stick or skip (the weight of my stylus is 'light'), with a generally quiet and clean aural response. This is NOT a thrashed, crackly record. Visually, the vinyl still retains an amount of sheen but there is surface scratching in evidence (hence the VG+ rating). As is the nature of vinyl, visual scratches do not necessarily equate to an unsatisfactory listening experience and in the case of this particular record its visual 'shortcomings' do not negate quality of playback.
