First “Loud Cut” pressing. December 3, 1965. “Loud Cut” matrices: XEX 579-1 & XEX 580-1. When “Rubber Soul” was initially mixed it was slightly different to how we hear it today. These early mixes only ever appeared in mono and are distinguished by the matrix numbers XEX 579-1 / XEX 580-1 in the deadwax. It’s argued that these early presses were unbalanced with a muddy bass and with an edgy, aggressive vocal sound. Since these copies seemed to lack body the decision was made to halt production whilst the mother plates were re-cut.

The first “Loud Cut” copies were Sans-serif label font types. This is the much rarer Times New Roman and was introduced JUST BEFORE the new plates were used and the Loud Cut discontinued.

The distinguishing feature of the Sans-serif labels is that the * credit indicator on these labels are spaced away from the song titles. As you can see from the photos the* indicator is next to the titles.

The sleeve is in wonderful condition. No heavy creases or writing on it. No tears and only a couple of thin line creases at the edges and a thumb crease only seen in a certain light. The spine is straight and true and fully legible. None of the edges shows any sign of wear and not even a corner bump. Beautiful vibrant colour with no fading.

The rear is equally impressive. No grubbiness no writing or marks. Use the zoom facility for a better view.

The vinyl plays as mostly EX.  However side 2 tracks 1/2  have a few tics on it. These are what I call soft tics NOT sharp clicks. So be aware.

Absolutely nothing serious like repeats or skips.

This record is 53 years old!.

MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.
V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
FAIR: Fair. It is noticeable that the record has been played so much that the sound quality has deteriorated very noticeably. The cover and contents are showing signs of folding, scuffing of edges etc.
