First pressing. March 22, 1963. The first pressing has black label with gold print and “Parlophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print. “Dick James Mus. Co”uncorrect publishing credit for “I Saw Her Standing There”, “Misery”, “Do You Want To Know A Secret” & “There’s A Place”. With or without tax code and with 33 1/3 on the label. Tax code variations: ZT, MT, ZMT. Polythene-lined “Use Emitex” die-cut inner sleeve. Matrix numbers: Side 1: XEX 421-1N; Side 2: XEX 422-1N.
Second label variation of the first pressing has a circular groove. This circular groove was the result of the use of the old stamp machines. This groove may appear on side 1 or side 2.
Crossover pressing. April, 1963. Crossover pressing has the side 1 as on the second pressing and the side 2 as on the first pressing.
Circular groove stamp. MT
Run out stamp. Side A GP with a 1 on the opposite side. Side 2 has 1 with a 2 underneath.
The first two issues were on the black and gold design label and the first yellow/black issue lacked the Recording First Published text & retained the small 33 1/3 after the matrix number of the first two pressings.
The next issue removed the small 33 1/3 from the label but had yet to have Recording First Published added.
The labels:
Black and Yellow Parlophone in design with The Parlophone Co Ltd perimeter & Recording First Published label text.
As this is an original 1963 pressing there is no Sold in the UK text across the centre of the label.
The silver text is clearly readable with no blemishes or fading & a striking yellow Parlophone logo. There are a few faint spindle marks around the centre hole if you look very closely - one of the few clues that this copy has actually seen a turntable!
The Vinyl:
This has retained its original shine despite being nearly fifty years old. This is highly unusual. Upon close inspection there are just a couple of light surface scuffs evident and none that affect play. An amazing condition fifty year old vinyl LP.
The Sleeve:
The Ernest J. Day front laminated flipback picture sleeve has the large block mono logo on the front & benefits from crisp clean laminate & rich colours.
The spine is still clearly readable & undamaged.
The rear of the sleeve has not had the benefit of being protected by laminate however it remains clean with some light foxing and very little sign of discolouration.
Complete with Use Emitex poly-lined inner.
