THE BEATLES - LET IT BE BOX SET (UK EDITION : APPLE RECORDS PXS 1 : FACTORY SAMPLE : COMPLETE WITH APPLE RECORDS POSTER AND UNTIED ARTISTS PRESSBOOK)
When out comes to the Let It Be Box Set, this is probably the ultimate and rarer version with the Apple Records insert, however, this is an early press with early stampers and a United Artists press book for ordering promotional posters, using publicity material and, as the press book states, 'exploitation material'! I will try my best to be accurate and thorough in my description so you know exactly what you're bidding on.
FRONT OF OUTER BOX
The front of the outer box is in excellent condition - the only things of note are visible in the photograph at the bottom right corner where is appears that has been slight shelf wear. The bottom right hand corner is showing slight shelf wear also.
THE BACK OF THE OUTER BOX
As you can see in the picture, there is a crease in the bottom left hand corner and very slight lamination lift. There is slight creasing at the top left and bottom right of the outer box. Nothing major, overall the outer box is excellent and solid.
THE BOOK
Looking at the book, it looks as if it has never been open. There are no loose pages and the spine is solid. The lamination on the back of the book has bubbled very slightly, if you look closely at the picture you will just about be able to see it. Other than that, this book is absolutely stunning and the best I have seen in over 30 years of collection. I would have no hesitation in grading this Mint.
THE BOOK TRAY AND SLIP TRAY
The actual tray to hold the whole set is original and has minor scuffs on the side flaps. I would grade this Near Excellent to Excellent. The tray that holds the book is original and as you can see there are two slight splits on the top right and bottom right of the holder, other than this the tray is Near Mint.
THE RECORD
COVER - The cover is absolutely stunning, as if it was made yesterday, all corners as you can see from the photos are sharp and there are no marks whatsoever on it. It really does look brand new. The red apple is present on the back cover indicating the correct album release with the box set. No hesitation in grading the cover Mint.
RECORD - As you can see from the photographs, the album is a factory sample. The A side label does have a sight bit of wear. The B side label shows no wear at all. On each side of the record there are very few spindle marks showing that the album has hardly been played. The disc itself is in near mint condition, there is visible evidence of the record having been removed from the inner sleeve however, you really have to look to see them.
STAMPER CODES - A Side - YEX 773-2U 71 AO B Side is YEX 774-2U 3 GD
THE APPLE RECORDS POSTER
This poster was inserted into Let It Be box sets and other releases such as the EMI One Box 1969 Beatles released. The poster has its two original folds, but has over the years has gained another three folds through being inside the Let It Be album sleeve. It is rare to find one in good condition in a Let It be Box Set. There are no pin holes, dog ears just the folds I have mentioned and would grade this poster Excellent. It is worth noting that the poster does not mention that Two Virgins was available in Mono. (As collectors know you had to order it direct from Apple!)
THE UNITED ARTISTS PRESSBOOK
Almost impossible to find and extremely rare, in thirty years of collecting, I have never seen one of these before - this is the only one I've seen and adds to the subtle irony of the Beatles break up. This was given out to the press, record shops media and cinemas in order to promote the film and the album in 1970. As it states in the press book, you could even order 'exploitation material'!!!! It has once crease as you can see in the photographs. There is minor creasing at the top and the bottom of this six pages press book. What seems quite ironic and so sad during the demise of the Beatles is that any material, as is stated on the press book, had to be ordered from New York. I would grade the item at least Very Good.
So there you have it, a lovely Let It Be Box Set that is not just in beautiful condition, but a factory sample, with an Apple Records poster and the cruelest of all inserts, the press book that required you to order Beatles posters and promotional material from New York!!!! A gem from my personal collection that, sadly, I have no choice to let go of.
With eBay fees being eBay fees, low start to save on listing costs. Bank transfer is preferred as a chunk will be taken out of the finishing price, if its not possible, cheque or Paypal (reluctantly with their 4%!!) will suffice.
I DO POST WORLDWIDE. PLEASE NOTE POSTAGE IS NOT £4.00 BUT SET OUT BELOW.
As this item is heavy, rare if not unique, it will be set in a secure cruciform package, insured and signed for. UK postage will £10.00 signed and insured. Rest of the world (including Europe) signed and insured £20.00. I know the postage is high but this is not the type of item you want to lose in the post without insurance!!!!! The above prices are for postage, please ignore below, eBay makes it such a pain to enter postage and make sure the item appears visible overseas. Pick up by arrangement is also welcome.
Best of luck to all the bidders.
