The Beatles : Let It Be 2U/2U 1st Press (Red Apple on Back Cover)

This FINAL UPGRADE first press is in essence 'as new'.  I grade honestly and this stunning vinyl is of a quality that is so hard to find today.  It looks pristine and it plays with impeccable clarity, depth and warmth throughout.  The record has hardly ever been played and there are only a couple of very minor spindle traces!

The original cover with the 'red apple' logo on the back cover is in beautiful condition with no real wear.  Contrary to what many may think the first pressings were not only included in the 'box set' as a certain amount were sold individually.  They don't get much better than this!

A first pressing is determined by the 2U/2U matrix and if the cover has the 'red apple' logo on the back cover.

This is the most beautiful example of a first pressing that I have ever seen and to say it looks 'as new' is an understatement!  It is stunning!  It has a mirror-like glossy sheen and with only a couple of faint spindle traces on S2 only this has hardly been played.  There is only one very faint hairline on S2 (it is not easy to find!) and there are no scratches, marks or groove wear - basically nothing that stops this vinyl from looking more or less perfect!  The run out grooves and labels are also incredibly clean - it would be nigh on impossible to find a better version and I very rarely say that!

Play grading

The 'spoken' intro on 'Two Of Us' is 'as new' with no 'background' of any kind and leads us perfectly into the song that also plays to a immaculate standard.  The vocals are so 'clean' and each musical note can be heard with incredible precision.  From start to finish this is Mint there is no need for a minus here!  The 'silent' moment near the end is exactly that, totally silent, and the fade out also plays with perfectly clarity.  The whistle has never sounded better!

The super quiet intro on 'Dig A Pony' could not be any clearer and you can easily hear the double sniff!  Thereafter the audio cannot be faulted and there is not even a dust tick!  This is audio of the highest quality, the sonic quality and depth of the sound is stunning.

'Across The Universe' is of the same 'high end' standard and once again there is no interference whatsoever.  This is one beautifully preserved vinyl, amazing for nearly 50 years old!  This is also Mint and the long fade out provides a prime example of the 'as new' clarity on offer here.  It is so quiet and yet there is no 'background' at all.  Wow!

'I Me Mine' is first up tempo number on the album and it plays with a great dynamic quality and no distortion on the top end.  And...no interference.

'Dig It' plays with perfect Mint perfection from start to finish.  As simple as that!

The classic 'Let It Be' is susceptible to static/crackle or worse on the intro as it is just so quiet.  This is as close to perfection as you will find I guarantee that.  I heard just the one mega faint dust tick but obviously that does not qualify as interference!  It then plays with wonderful depth and warmth and the mid guitar solo is stunning.  The remainder is nigh on perfect with perhaps only a minimal amount of inner groove distortion.

The quirky 'Maggie Mae' ends this incredible side with perfect audio and no interference.

'I've Got A Feeling' has only a minimal amount of very quiet static on the intro and soon disappears.  That is the first 'background' to be heard on the album and is only very minor anyway!  From that point on normal service is resumed and the playback is Mint to the very end. 

The following version of 'One After 909' is absolutely stunning and the depth and warmth here is tangible.  This is due in no small measure to the 'live' recording feel they utilised here.  This could not play any better and again grades as Mint I am confident in saying.

The quiet intro on 'The Long And Winding Road' is faultless and continues to play with the same 'high end' audio.  It may not be as McCartney wished with the Spector induced orchestra but this is nonetheless a fabulous version with, you guessed it, no 'background' of any kind.  Again the clarity and depth of the recording is equal to that of a vinyl only pressed recently not nearly 50 years ago!

'For You Blue' is Mint from the first note to the last with not one iota of interference.  The clarity is exceptional.

The 'live' recording of 'Get Back' ends the album in supreme style with a perfect 'spoken' intro and then audio that just defies its age...again.  It plays with wonderful depth and again there is not even a single dust tick to be heard.  Final tracks rarely play as 'cleanly' as this and this is quite simply a sensational version.  A perfect 'spoken' outro also.  

In summary this is the most complete 'audio' I have ever heard on a genuine first press.  There is nothing to detract from the immaculate quality of the audio and there is not one single click or pop.  It is barely worth a mention but as stated there is just a minimal hint of light background static at the beginning of S2 but that is literally the only 'background' to be heard across the entire album!  This is a FINAL UPGRADE version without doubt and to find one as pristine as this is a rare find indeed.  The cover is also in immaculate condition and any avid Beatles' collector would be keen to have this in their collection.

The Cover

The glossy G & L cover is in fantastic condition and as stated it has the 'red apple' on the back.  It is of course made with relatively thin card and is rarely seen as 'clean' as this today, it has been beautifully preserved.  The thin edges and spine have no shelf wear at all and the corners are also super clean with no obvious wear.   Wow!  The opening edge is also in pristine condition with no handling wear.  The front cover is remarkably clean with only four very small laminate creases and a hint of minimal ringwear.  The back cover is also in superb order with no creasing or marking.  I cannot stress enough just how incredibly clean this original first press cover is - I have never seen a more impressive version.  A FINAL UPGRADE cover also!

The Labels

The 'Apple' labels are in pristine condition with no marking or writing and have retained their colour remarkably well.  The S1 label has no spindle wear and S2 has only a couple of tiny traces.  Absolutely stunning!

The Inner Sleeve

The original plain white die-cut inner sleeve is in lovely condition with no side splits or tears and no marking either.  There is only very minor creasing.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
