Description

This edition is an exception to the 2,500 copies signed by Klaus Voormann and Astrid Kirchherr.
This is an ultra rare edition of this great book in that it is an exception to the numbered limited edition 2,500 signed by Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voormann. It is a preview edition, making it even more rare than the already exclusive limited editions. It is authentic and was bought from the Administrators of a memorabilia retail shop in Birmingham UK. The numbered editions (sold out I believe, but please check that out yourself) were available for £295.00 and will have already increased in value as an investment.   With a foreword from George Harrison it tells the story of The Beatles' years in Hamburg, through the unpublished memories of Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voormann - covering life in war-torn Germany, through to the Sixties, the arrival of The Beatles, and their first years of glorious fame. This in-depth text is illustrated with Astrid's unparalleled photographs of The Beatles, and Klaus's unique pictures. The work of both artists is printed here to the highest standards, in the large format which such images deserve.   Accompanying the revealing text of the 228-page first volume is the new artwork by Klaus Voormann - more than 200 original drawings, watercolors, paintings and pastels - and the complete collection of Astrid Kirchherr's Hamburg photographs.

Many of these photographs are reproduced in hues of blue and sepia or in full-colour, while others remain in monochrome - all exquisitely printed in large format.

The 72-page second volume presents, complete with large folding plates, reproductions of the Hamburg Days paintings with associated artwork and commentary, printed in full-colour throughout. This large-format volume is master-printed and image-varnished on 200 gsm matt art paper, with trace-paper leaves. Coloured wraps are also added to the main volume. The trimmed page size of the volume is 342mm x 250mm. The Art Direction was overseen by Klaus Voormann.

Each volume of Hamburg Days is quarter-bound in rich Italian cloth with lithographed front and back boards. A lithographed solander box, complete with metal name plate, houses both volumes.

There is a very slight indent to the outer box (please see the picture) from storage, which prevents me from describing this as mint. It is hardly noticeable and should not affect the value but I'd rather be honest.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require further information.

Hamburg Days by Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voormann

"Klaus was part of a group of The Beatles' friends in Hamburg. Now he has made some 'memory drawings' of our Hamburg days which are not only beautiful drawings in themselves, but which capture the spirit of the times. The really good thing about Klaus, his drawings, and this book, however, is that - unlike many other people - he was actually there!" Sir Paul McCartney

"It's really good to see Astrid's great photos, and Klaus's new paintings put together in one set of books - with all the usual care from Genesis." George Harrison

"I am really grateful for Paul McCartney's memories and assistance, for helping to recreate images of those great times - some wilder than others." Klaus Voormann
