Description
Absolutely beautiful original copy of the rare 1972 Beatles 4-LP compilation boxed set, Alpha Omega, released by Audio Tape, Inc. of New Jersey. This was the first ever retrospective of the Beatles' music and was the inspiration for the red and blue albums that same year. The story goes that this company worked out some sort of licensing deal for television mail-order sales only, and it sold well enough to alert Capitol, who promptly canceled their license agreement and issued the famous red and blue albums (also 4 LPs). So this set was only available in some select US regions by mail order, and was only sold for a very short time, making it quite rare. This is the original color cover as well, which was replaced by a cheaper black and white cover when the first small run sold out. It's a very strange collection, not at all in chronological order, with juxtapositions like The Long and Winding Road following A Hard Day's Night... also there are a few out of place solo songs like George's Bangla Desh and Paul's Uncle Albert, but none by John or Ringo. Very piecemeal but very special. This is a truly historic and rare collector's item. --And this copy is in absolutely gorgeous condition. All four discs are nearly perfectly mint and play flawlessly and just beautifully. The box has a little light wear but no torn corners and no creases, which is very rare for these. I have almost never seen a better copy. Just beautiful.
