Description
***** WELCOME TO ALLHART99 RECORDS ***** This ultra rare first 45 rpm pressing (1,000 of them, only 88 actually sold at the retail level) released on Feb. 4, 1963 in Canada on Capitol 72076, was the first record issued in all of North America credited to The Beatles on Capitol Records, featured Ringo Starr on drums and was dubbed from the original UK single (Parlophone R4949).
-200 of those 1,000 copies were distributed to Canadian radio stations and media with just 88 copies sold at the retail level through Canadian record stores.
-The remaining 700+ copies were sent back to the pressing plant where they were melted and recycled.
-These first 1,000 pressings (variation #1) are identified in two ways:
1.) By the slightly larger hand written matrix number 7XCE 17144 and 7XCE 17145 with no dash and no number following the matrix number nor is there shown an -A or -B. The matrix must read 17XCE-17144 for side A and 17XCE-17145 for side B, no other numbers or letters, just the matrix number.
2.) The following information has only been recently discovered as follows: On the February 1963 issue (variation #1), the 'R' in the word RECORD at the left side of the label is extended into the yellow swirl portion of the label. All of the subsequent pressings have the letter 'R' printed in the orange portion of the swirl label.
-These 1,000 45's (variation #1) were issued on Feb. 4, 1963 before anyone was aware of where this group was heading and only a handful of the original 1,000 are thought to still exist, very rare indeed!
-Love Me Do was the first song ever written by Paul McCartney and occurred sometime during 1957 or 1958 when he was just 15 or 16 years old and was later credited to Lennon-McCartney.
-Personnel:
-Paul McCartney-vocals, bass
-John Lennon-vocals, harmonica
-George Harrison-acoustic rhythm guitar
-Ringo Starr-drums
-Side two: P.S. I Love You
-This version also recorded on Sept. 11, 1962 at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, London, England. On this version Andy White plays drums and Ringo Starr plays maracas.
-Written by Paul McCartney during the spring of 1962 while Paul McCartney was in Hamburg, Germany with George Harrison, Pete Best and John Lennon.
-Personnel:
-Paul McCartney-vocals, bass
-John Lennon-acoustic rhythm guitar, backing vocals
-George Harrison-acoustic guitar, tremolo lead guitar, backing vocals
