We are pleased to present the rarest and hardest-to-find Band album in existence: the monstrously rare black “rainbow” label Capitol pressing of The Band’s legendary, second album. This album is a proverbial Loch Ness monster of record collecting: everybody knows that it exists, but no one has ever seen, let alone snapped a photo, of one. We have a distinct privilege of presenting a GORGEOUS specimen of one such rare species here. We estimate that these “Black label” pressings are outnumbered by their more common green stock label cousins by a ratio of close to 1000:1. And, no, we are NOT exaggerating.

Legend has it that, after hearing this beautifully poetic and under-adorned masterpiece of simple elegance and elegant simplicity, Eric Clapton decided to give up on heavy electric blues (Cream- style) altogether , and never looked back. Indeed, after 1969 we find him singing and playing southern soul, reggae, pop, disco, hard rock , techno-pop and whatnot, but we no longer get to hear him play 9-minute guitar solos. The impact that this, Band’s second album (and a truly historical relic - in more ways than one), exerted on Rock world surely cannot be overestimated. It proved to the world at large that Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Hawkins and John Hammond,jr. were not crazy when they opted to be backed by THE Band. Both songwriting and musical execution are exquisite; the album contains some of the best - and most memorable - Rock songs ever written and played, and represents one of top-20 best albums of all times. This is the original 1969 pressing of the album, on the original Capitol lime-green label, and is offered here in a beautiful condition. Don’t fail to grab this piece of history. (a)            CAUTION! The vinyl is only VERY GOOD (-)- TO VERY GOOD, with multiple, numerous, small scuffs and scratches which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with light and tolerable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and occasional pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(d)            Black label pressing of this title is much rarer than the more common lime-green version; We estimate that green label pressings of this album outnumber black labels by a ratio of at least 500:1.

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The gatefold cover has partially split seams on 1 out of 4 "legs" of the cover (about 3 inches / 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters).

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the top and bottom seams.

-         Small RIAA gold award blurb noted on the front cover

-         Cover has a small, rectangular, sticker residue (small yellowish discoloration from the removed price sticker)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent.

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)
