THE ANDREWS SISTERS – 16-inch Radio DJ Promotional 33-1/3 RPM Record, circa 1949-1950
“The Andrews Sisters Invite You To A Christmas Party With Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye & Guy Lombardoâ€
This oversized record was given to me many years ago by Maxene Andrews. It was sent to disc jockeys at Christmastime, and consists of 30 minutes of light holiday-themed banter by Patty, Maxene & LaVerne, with introductions to 7 of their Christmas-themed single records. The DJ was then to play the specific recordings mentioned as they were cued. There are 7 cuts, or tracks, each identified on the label as being the intro to one of the records (which include duets with Crosby, Kaye & Lombardo). This record is strictly the three sisters talking, no music. All on one side only.
The record is too large for standard turntables, and at that time only radio stations could accommodate disks of that size. A friend at a radio station played it for me, and the sound was very good, it has that “used LP†sound but is clear and sharp with no cuts or skips.
The white label with blue printing includes tracking instructions, a nice caricature of the Sisters, and the instruction to “Use Decca Records only with this transcription†(see scan).
