Description

DESCRIPTION:
Known as "The Father of Minimalism," American electronic music pioneer Terry Riley (b.1935) has had tremendous impact on generations of Western classical, jazz, new age and rock composers. His influence can be heard in the works of Phillip Glass, Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Pete Townshend, Tangerine Dream, and many others. The British progressive rock group Curved Air named themselves after Riley's 1968 composition "A Rainbow in Curved Air," and the synthesizer loops in that work inspired Townshend to create some of his own. The classic Who track "Baba O'Riley" is titled partly in Terry Riley's honor.

In 1965, Riley recorded two of his early tape-loop experiments "Untitled Organ" and "Dorian Reeds." The results became Riley's ground-breaking first album "Reed Streams." Privately pressed, only 1000 copies were issued, each in its own hand-silkscreened cover and protective plastic sleeve.

On the outer plastic sleeve of this rare copy, the composer has inscribed "To Dorrill & Ira - 3/13/67 - Terry Riley."

A one-of-a-kind copy of a musical milestone!
