Description

Tennessee Thompson with the Boomerangs - Slippin & Sliddin / Saturday Ball - RCT 7033/4 - Indianapolis Indiana

Edward R.C. "Tennessee" Thompson was the son of Jesse Frank Thompson and Elvie Thompson (Capps).  Not much is known about his private life, so we continue with his musical efforts. Thompson's nasal voice suggests that he was a country singer before rock'n'roll conquered the musical world but that's only a guess.In 1959, he and his band went into a studio in Chicago to record two songs: "Slippin & Slidin" and "Saturday Ball." Both were fine rockabilly pieces with a driving guitar work and slap bass. On this day, Thompson was accompanied by Aubrey Cagle (guitar), Jerry Williams (lead guitar), a guy called "Boomer" (guitar) and two unidentified musicians (bass/drums). Thompson played rhythm guitar and sang. Both songs were released in 1959 on the RCT record label out of Indianapolis, Indiana. The fact that Aubrey Cagle and Jerry Williams played on his record as well as the label's location indicates that Thompson was also from Indiana. RCT Records was probably owned by Thompson (R.C. Thompson). However, the record had not much impact on the record buying public in 1959.

Thompson possibly went out of the music business eventually and founded a family. He was married at least two times and had several children. He married in 1956 and lived together with this woman the rest of his life. Tennessee Thompson died in 1992. This info was found on Mellow's Log Cabin.

The Record, Side 1 is in VG (sleeve scratches, nothing deep) condition. The Side 2 portion is a solid VG+. I have under graded to ensure customer satisfaction. Most would call this record a VG++.  Labels are both legible with great color and there is a tiny bit of sticker on the "Slippin" side that I believe could be removed with care. I stuck a fingernail under it and it seamed to be able to be peeled but I did not want to tear the label so I went no further. This is one of the rarest Rockabilly / Hillbilly records to come out of the corn state. This is not a repro! Styrene Original. There has not been a real one on in over two years and the last one fetched over $1500! Turn it up and Enjoy! This is the record you are bidding on. I will be listing other Indiana records this week so please check out my auctions.

CONDITION

   RECORD = please read description.

PICTURE SLEEVE / COVER = please read description.

INNER SLEEVE = N/A

LABELS =  above

GRADING SYSTEM

Mint = Only reserved for Sealed records or store stock new 45s. 10/10 Top Copies

Near Mint =  The record may have been played once or twice on good equipment. Near Mint vinyl should sound and look New when dust is cleaned off and the records played with a properly aligned cartridge and good needle. A Near Mint cover should be one that either looks new or still has the shrink wrap on it. Near Mint is usually reserved for record collectors that don't mind spending premium in order to get the best quality copy of a recording. 9 out of 10

Excellent = 8 out of 10 A record should have maybe one blemish such as fingernail or scuff on the surface that does not affect play. It should be veiwed as Near Mint to most collectors, but for the super picky collector such as myself that check them with a 100 watt light bulb before it ever gets played, it is veiwed as 8/10.

Very Good ++ = 7 Out of 10. A VG++ record may have a few blemishes on each side and will still play with High Fidelity.

Very Good + = VG+ is a grade that I use for most lps that have been played a handful of times with care. It may have one or two scratches (should not be feelable with finger) that DO NOT affect play or some sleeve scuffs from being pulled and played. When put on your record platter a VG+ record should sound great. There should not be overwhelming background noise (when properly cleaned). Pops and Skips from deep scratches are unacceptable.  You should be able to listen to a VG+ record time and time again and not have to worry about damaging it because its not in top collectable shape anyway. 6 out of 10

Very Good =   A vg record has been played numerous times, such as party records that were stacked on top of each other instead of being returned to the inner sleeve. These should play with background noise but will not hurt your needle. 45s are a different story. These will usually play well even though there are numerous scratches. Don't be afraid of surface scratches, your stylus takes a worse beating every time it crosses the matrix numbers in the trail off. 5 out of 10

Remember to achieve this sound quality you need to have your equipment properly set up. Never put too much weight on your stylus, 1.5 grams is sufficient for most turntables.
