FOR COLLECTORS OF RARE WAGNER AND OPERA IN GENERAL ON 78 RPM DISCS THIS SET IS QUITE A CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE WAGNERIAN KIND

THIS BOX CAME FROM A PRIVATE MUSIC LIBRARY AND AND WE HAVE LEFT IT'S CONTENTS AS WE FOUND IT.  IT CONTAINS A SIXTEEN RECORD GROUP OF SCENES FROM TANHAUSER, RECORDED ELECTRICALLY FROM THE STAGE OF BAYREUTH IN 1930-THEY DID NOT RECORD THE COMPLETE OPERA THEN ONLY SCENES.  KARL ELMENDORFF CONDUCTING WITH SIGISMUND PILINSZKY AS TANHAUSER, MARIA MULLER, ELISABET AND RUTH-JOST ARDEN, MEZZO, IVAR ANDRESEN, BASS, HERBERT JANSSEN,BARITONE AND A VERY YOUNG AND AMAZING SOUNDING ERNA BERGER AS THE SHEPHERD AND THE BAYREUTH FESTIVAL ORCH. AND CHORUS.

NEXT A FOUR RECORD VICTOR ORTHOPHONIC SET (EARLIEST VICTOR ELECTRICAL OF SCENES FROM SIEGFRIED, THE FINALE TO ACT THREE WITH FLORENCE EASTON, LAURITZ MELCHIOR  AND ROBERT HEGER CONDUCTING THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE ORCH OF COVENT GARDEN.

Florence Easton made more than 100 records in the 1920s and 1930s. She recorded for Odeon, Aeolian-Vocalion and for Brunswick, initially recording acoustically, but electrically from 1926. She embraced opera, operetta, sacred songs and popular ballads. She recorded six operatic items for Edison (1927). One of her most important Wagnerian records was made for HMV in 1932: the superb Siegfried "Brünnhilde" opposite Lauritz Melchior (Covent Garden, 1932) "Heil dir Sonne! Heil dir Licht!" (the best recording in her own estimation). In 1933, HMV recorded six sides of Lieder and songs for RCA Victor, accompanied by Gerald Moore.

AND FINALLY WAGNER SCENES WITH TENOR JOHANNES SEMBACH ON COLUMBIA ACOUSTICAL BANNER DISC, SUPERB EARLY MET STAR AND MEGA RARE RECORDING,

BASSO MARCEL JOURNET ON SINGLE SIDED VICTOR AND

TENOR SET SVANHOLM ON VICTOR

THE RECORDS ARE ALL FOR THE MOST PART IN SUPERB CONDITION, THE TANNHAUSER EXCERPTS APPEAR UNHANDLED, THE SIEGFRIED SCENES ARE ALSO VERY CLEAN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE OF THE 4 DISCS WHICH HAS A HAIRLINE CRACK WHICH DOES NOT AFFECT PLAY.

THE TANHAUSER RECORDS ARE IN AUTOMATIC CHANGER SEQUENCE THE SIEGFRIED EXCERPTS ARE IN MANUAL SEQUENCE.
