"THE ADDICTED MAN"  /  "HELP ME MUMMY'S GONE"

Parlophone R 5553     1966

Record Collector Listed, As One Of The Rarest Singles EVER! 

The Vinyl is generally Excellent

Side A, has 2 tiny light hairlines

Side B, has 3 tiny light hairlines


The label on side A as you can see in the picture, has a small amount of what looks like sticker residue

Side B label is Excellent


Sleeve is general 1966 issue.



The Addicted Man has a fascinating history: it was scheduled for release on 6th January 1967 and it was included in the BBC TV programme Juke Box Jury the week before. The jury voted it a resounding Miss and were appalled at the druggy lyrics and title. Fearing bad publicity Parlophone cancelled the release and the Game continued their spiral into obscurity.

 

Several demos (green label) had already been distributed  and just a few of these survive today. In the last 6 years there have been 5 copies on ebay.

The general issue record (black label) which is much rarer has only seen 1 copy for sale.

So the incredible rarity of this record is the chief reason for its being sought by serious collectors all over the world.

 

Another reason is the amazing sound. This amazing psych performance features some incredible guitar riffs smacking of the Who and the Creation - chunky power chords, loads of feedback and heavy bass.

 

Changing hands for £1,000 or more,  this record is VERY desirable and a black label issue never come's on the market, so I am offering this unique disc for 10 days.


Please Note; I have placed a realistic reserve on this disc as to cover me for a possible give away.


Footnote;  I have collected records for many years and purchased this at a car boot in a box of assorted singles.

When i got home and went through them, it was an, Oh my god moment! I genually had goose bumps.
