GRADING
I sell items from my personal collection on the same basis that I buy them: to listen to recorded music in what I consider the best way. I don’t buy records as a collector or for their appeal and value as artifacts. For that reason I use a very simple grading system based on listening carefully to (and digitally recording) every record I sell. It is as follows:
If I listen to a record and, overall, I am not conscious of noise interfering with appreciation of the music I grade the record as EXCELLENT. If, on the other hand, I am conscious of some noise through a significant part of the record I grade it as VERY GOOD. I would not sell a record that I could not listen to.
I believe this grading is better than much of what I see and have experienced on eBay. Countless times I have purchased Sealed or NM records only to find them falling below what I consider an acceptable level for listening. I use high end audio equipment – Rega P5 turntable with Micro Benz cartridge; Mark Levinson amplifiers; Castle speakers.
Of course, each listener’s experience is different and I would not expect every buyer to agree every time with my grading. For that reason I offer a return policy which allows an item to be returned for a full refund. The buyer will pay for the return postage except where I have made a gross error in grading or sent the wrong item. Refunds will not be made where the item has been damaged by the buyer (as compared with the recording made prior to sale).
