Description

Sun Ra       Jazz By Sun Ra     mono    Transition Trlp 10  with booklet  NOT A REISSUE  EXTREMELY RARE TRANSITION ORIGINAL PRESS

John Gilmore (ts), Art Hoyle (t), James Scales(as), Pat Patrick (as, bar s), Julian Priester (tb),  Sun Ra (p),Richard Evans (b), Robert Barry (d) ETC Recorded 1956

The record looks VG+/ VG++ and plays very nicely at VG++.  A really nice copy that will not need upgrading.   Music plays loud and strong without distortion. On Side 1, there's a needle dig in the run in that causes 3 pops at the very beginning of the first tune.  There's also a light hairline scuff, not into the grooves, that's app 1 inch long and does not affect play.  Side 2 looks clean.  No scuffs or scratches.  This is a styrene pressing which typically wore out quickly and usually have significant graying in the grooves.  Grooves on this record do not show any graying and look to have seen little play.  Labels on both sides look ready to fall off which is a common problem with Transitions.

Audio clips are below. One minute of beginning of each side and one minute random selection from each side included below.

The booklet is nice and clean VG++.  Some fading but no writing, tears, stains, missing pages, bent or crinkled pages.

 The cover is VG+.

The paste on  front cover is bright and shiny with light wear spots along the pocket. The back cover has moderate wear and a shallow cut app 1 inch into the slick.  The top seam is split app 3 inches at the pocket and is not taped.  It is also split app 3 inches at the spine and is not taped.  Bottom seam is not split but has spots of heavy wear at the corners.  The spine is split app 5 inches, beginning at the top.  Spots of wear at the corners.

Black lines that might be visible at bottom left and top right in pictures are due to photo cropping and not on record.

I WILL NOT END AUCTIONS EARLY.  PLEASE DO NOT ASK

My highest grade is M- and I rarely grade 50s or 60s records M-. Records are graded visually using the Goldmine system. M-, VG++, VG+, VG, VG- etc. I play grade any potential problem areas.  I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws. You will be satisfied.  No hassles.
