Hi everyone,
Stray Cats shaped picture disc - SCAPD 6 (including mispress)
A-side = She's Sexy + 17
B-side = Lookin' Better Every Beer
I have owned this record since new, buying it in the Wimborne Road record shop in Kinson, Bournemouth, UK, when it was in the charts all those years ago.
I have never played it, so the recording itself should be in absolute mint condition. I bought it purely as a fan and a collector and already owning the ordinary 7" at that time there was no reason to play it.
There are a few really fine and almost invisible surface scratches on the shaped part of the disc where it has been handled over the years but the playing surface looks absolutely clean.
These were the days when 7" singles cost 99p in the shops and if I remember rightly, this record cost me £1.99.
I do remember that the disc was clear, see-through around the edges outside the area of the decal. This seems to have yellowed slightly with age. (Crikey, over 32 years now!).
There are obviously no spindle marks on the record and looking at the hole, there is still excess plastic swarf in the joint between the two halves of the pressing, which would have been 'shaved clean' by the spindle if it had ever reached a turntable - it's a nice touch confirming the provenance of the unplayed status.
I have stated in the description that this is a mispress. What I mean is that the decal was obviously not applied properly when the record was waxed.
If you have a look at Lee Rocker's right arm (the character on the left of the group), you will see his hand is missing.
Turn over the record and you will see that the decal has folded during manufacture and Lee's hand is superimposed on the B-side of the decal.
You will also see a couple of other problems with the decal: Slim Jim Phantom's left arm holding the beer is slightly torn (well, it does look quite a heavy tinnie!), and there is a similar small tear in the decal in the bottom left corner at the point of the wheel's track rods. You can see the defects much clearer in the B-side image.
It was probably quite a tricky shape to mount as a disc.
Size wise, the record is around 27cm at its widest point and 22cm at its tallest.
I have just found it amongst my personal treasures that have been in store for many years in Berlin, so the record will ship from Germany whilst we're here on holiday. Please therefore ignore the UK postage rates and info below.
