~~~~~ Stephen Stills ~ Private 1979 Comparison Pressing of his song Cherokee in Digital and Analog as a Comparison.  ~~~~~ This is a rare, historic Record Plant pressing that Stephen Stills (of Buffalo Springfield, Crosby Stills & Nash, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Manassass, The Rides, etc.) had made when digital recording was first available in 1979. ~~~~~ From Wikipedia's Record Plant page, "1977 and beyond": Studio C was destroyed by electrical fire on January 10th, 1978. At the time, rocker Marshall Chapman was working with Al Cooper and bassist Tom Comet in Studio B on an album "Jaded Virgin" and he helped other musicians and engineers carry priceless master reordings to safety outside the building. He said, "We mights as well have been rescuing Rembrants from the Louvre....I remember seeing "Hotel California" on one, and "John Lennon" on another. I nearly fainted when I saw i was holding a box containing "Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life". ~~~~~ During the next 13 months, Studio C was rebuilt and fitted with radical new gear. In February 1979, Stephhen Stills became the first American artist to record on digital recording and mastering equipment, a 3M system installed to replace the previous analog system. With engineer Michael Braunstein at the controls, Stills recorded a new version of the song "Cherokee", previously released on his first solo album, "Stephen Stills". ~~~~~ Still had just 100 custom copies made [on the Record Plant label] that he sent to music executives, producers, and friends. This is one of them. ~~~~~ Each side of the record has the song "Cherokee" in analog and digital as a comparison model. On a good sound system, the difference is clearly evident. Please see the documentation I have included. ~~~~~ Vinyl is graded as Near Mint ~~~~~ In terms of pricing, since I've never seen another one for sale, a friend of mine who is a record collector and DJ ran it through ChatGBT (I don't use AI) and it came up $200 to $300 so I've priced it at $250 (or best reasonable offer).
