Description

TITLE:Spirit of the 60s 4-LP Box Set MCA 1988 NM Vinyl Hendrix Cream Steppenwolf Psych

THE CRATE DIGGER'S NOTES:Before Spotify playlists, there was Spirit of the 60s.This massive 4-LP box set, released in 1988 by MCA (Peach Productions), collects 40 of the most important songs of the psychedelic era.

Most compilations give you one or two hits and a bunch of filler. This one is "All Killer, No Filler." We are talking about the heavyweights: Jimi Hendrix ("Purple Haze"), Cream ("Sunshine of Your Love"), The Zombies ("Time of the Season"), and Sly & The Family Stone. It plays like a soundtrack to the greatest road trip of your life. If you want to instantly own the best of the 1960s on analog vinyl without buying 40 separate albums, this is the cheat code.

THE LINER NOTES TRIVIA:

  • The "Spirit" Connection: It is only fitting that the band Spirit is actually featured on the Spirit of the 60s album. Their track "I Got A Line On You" is a standout on Side H.

  • The Motor City Madman: Check out track D4, "Journey to the Center of the Mind" by The Amboy Dukes. That screaming lead guitar? That is a very young Ted Nugent before he went solo.

  • The Hendrix Factor: Licensing Jimi Hendrix tracks for compilations is famously expensive and difficult. The fact that this set includes three Hendrix cuts ("Purple Haze," "Foxy Lady," and "Hey Joe") makes it a cut above your standard "Oldies" collection.

THE GRADING (Strict Goldmine Standards):

  • Vinyl (NM x4): This is the selling point. It is extremely rare to find a 4-LP box set where every single record is Near Mint. These discs look unplayed. They are glossy, clean, and scratch-free. I spot-checked "Born to Be Wild"—it roars out of the speakers with zero background noise.

  • Jacket/Box (VG): The outer box (which holds the four records) is graded VG. It shows standard shelf wear, rubbing on the artwork, and some softening at the corners. It has done its job of protecting the pristine vinyl inside.

THE SHIPPING PROTOCOL:I pack box sets to withstand the journey.

  • USPS Media Mail: Tracked and secure.

  • Preservation: Each of the 4 records has their anti-static inner sleeve and the entire box gets a fresh large outer poly sleeve.

  • Padding: Extra cardboard added

Buy It Now: $24.99(40 legendary songs on 4 pristine records. That is less than 65 cents per song for NM vinyl.)
