This is the genuine article. 100% AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL CONTEMPORARY RECORDS STEREO PRESSING.

THIS RECORD IS FROM OUR PERSONAL COLLECTION. Well maintained. Very Rare.

*Because our clients are mostly jazz collectors and connoisseurs, as we are, we made it our policy to only sell vinyl that we grade in VERY GOOD (VG) condition or better. This vinyl is in our opinion a VG+, looks and plays great.

Record Grade VG+ = Very well maintained. The vinyl is in beautiful condition. We just now listened to both sides of the whole album and it plays smooth and quiet. Shiny vinyl. A few surface scratches that have little to no effect on sound, occasional pop at most. Difficult to find this rare vintage record in such great condition. (see pictures)

Jacket Grade VG+ = Shiny, clean, well maintained. We grade the jacket a VG+. No tape. This record is from our personal collection. No major defects at all, just normal use wear. A very clean jacket for a 58 year old album. We have kept it in plastic. It comes with the original Blue Note paper inner sleeve, which is slightly ripped. (see pictures)

The pictures were taken of the exact vinyl record and album cover you will receive, moments before this listing was written. Please make sure to review the images and ask any questions prior to bidding.

*We consider all reasonable offers and respond to ebay messages immediately.

Way Out West is a 1957 album by Sonny Rollins with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Shelly Manne, neither of whom had played or recorded with Rollins before. The music employs a technique called "strolling", used here by Rollins for the first time, in which he would solo over only bass and drums with no pianist playing chords.

The picture for the cover, taken by celebrated jazz photographer William Claxton, with the saxophonist dressed in Stetson hat, holster, and horn in place of a pistol, was Rollins' own idea, to celebrate his first trip out West, according to Koenig in the liner notes.
