Sonny Rollins Four
'Saxophone Colossus' 1957
Esquire 32-045 MONO First UK Pressing 1957 - laminated cover with flipback sleeve
RVG (for producer/engineer Rudy Van Gelder) etched into the 'deadwax' on the run-off grooves - both sides
With Tommy Flanagan, Doug Watkins, Max Roach - recorded June 1956
Generally acknowledged as one of the greatest jazz recordings ever made. A rare and much sought after UK First Pressing. The record is in superb condition. The cover has had the Sellotape treatment from a misguided owner.
CONDITION
RECORD EX A well-played record which has stood the test of time and is in wonderful condition offering magnificent sound quality. Side One is pretty much perfection with no crackles etc even between the tracks! Amazing. Side Two is similar except there are 3 light clicks then a further 5 light clicks on track 1 'Moritat'. There are also a few light crackles on the quiet parts (eg bass solo) of Side Two track 2 'Blue Seven'. Overall it's still a definite EX and a joyful listen.
COVER VG-  Sellotape marks around edges front and back; black line to top right corner of front; bent lower right hand corner to front/left hand corner to rear.
Labels VG- multiple spindle marks
Original inner sleeve VG
I use Record Collector gradings
