SONNY ROLLINS - 'SONNY ROLLINS PLAYS' LP
Sonny Rollins - 'Sonny Rollins Plays' LP on Period Records (SPL 1204). Original mono pressing.
Cover is in beautiful shape with no ringwear, writing, rips, tears or holes of any kind. Seams and spine are intact except for 2" seam split at bottom right (see photo). The word "Jazz" is stamped in upper right corner on back cover, and corners have tiny wear (see photos).
Labels are original deep groove red-and-black Period labels. Very clean. Matrix trail-off reads:
Side A : SPL - 1204 - A 11-26-57
Side B : SPL - 1204 - B 11-26-57
Comes with original rice paper sleeve.
Vinyl is a strong VG++/EX. Beautiful, shimmering condition with only a few very light surface marks. Very well cared for over the years. Cleaned on a VPI record cleaner and playtested on a Bang & Olufsen turntable. Sounds incredible.
Tracks on Side One are "Sonnymoon for Two," "Like Someone in Love," and "Theme from Pathetique Symphony" by the Sonny Rollins Quintet; recorded Nov. 4, 1957 with Sonny Rollins, Jimmy Cleveland, Gil Coggins, Wendell Marshall and Kenny Dennis. Side Two features Thad Jones and his Ensemble with "Lust for Life" and "I Got It Thad and That Ain't Bad," recorded Dec. 24, 1956 with Thad Jones, Frank Foster, Jimmy Jones, Jo Jones and Doug Watkins; and a ballad medley of "Flamingo," "If You Were Mine," "I'm Through With Love," and "Love Walked In" recorded Jan. 6, 1957 with Thad Jones, Frank Wess, Henry Coker, Tommy Flanagan, Elvin Jones and Eddie Jones.
All in all, a very rare jazz classic in excellent condition.
