Description
Sonny Clark on Blue Note 1588
This is the original deep-groove RVG-stamped “P”-pressing of Sonny Clark “Cool Struttin’” on the West 63rd (no INC) labels of Blue Note BLP 1588. Both sides show superficial scuffs, handling marks, and hairlines; however, there appears to be no audible or visible groove wear/damage. A listening test of the record shows: Side 1, Track 1 – sporadic low-level tics, Track 2 – very quiet with a few non-intrusive low-level tics; Side 2, Track 1 – sporadic low-level tics, Track 2 – just a few low-level tics. For the most part, this record qualifies as a typical older Blue Note that plays far better than it looks. The laminated West 63rd cover is clean throughout, with normal age toning; 1” superficial paper loss in the upper left corner of the back slick, probably where a store sticker was removed; 2” split on the bottom seam, at the opening; slight lamination lifting along the opening, on the front; 1/8” wear at the top right corner.
Personnel include Art Farmer, Jackie McLean, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones.
