JIMMY ARMSTRONG - IT'S GONNA TAKE LOVE - (scheduled to be released as Shrine 105) reference ACETATE recorded at Edgewood Recording Studios in Washington DC.
I wish I could tell you this is a MINT Shrine 105 single, but I can only tell you what this IS. What I am offering is a reference ACETATE (a metal disc with a glass master surface). It is the acetate for Shrine 105, which was to be I Believe I'll Love On b/w It's Gonna Take Love. It was recorded at Edgewood Recording Studio, Inc., in Washington DC. This is a ONE SIDED disc, and the song here is IT'S GONNA TAKE LOVE, playing time 2:59. I haven't heard the originally scheduled A side, but this particular side is a slow bluesy number that (in my opinion) is kind of TOO bluesy. I would guess that the intended A side (which is NOT on this disc) IS a Northern track, but IT'S GONNA TAKE LOVE is definately not a dancable song. What is IS, to completists, is one of those elusive missing Shrine singles. If you do not have Shrine 105 (and who really does?), here is your chance to have bragging rights to one of the rarest on the label.
I am repeating this.... I have for sale a ONE SIDED acetate which was scheduled to be released as Shrine 105. The track on this disc is IT'S GONNA TAKE LOVE. This song is NOT a Northern song, but rather a bluesy track that did not sound dancable to me. But it IS a rare item, and would fill the void in a Shrine Collector's library. Even framed, this would be a conversation piece.
I played this record once. It has the that Shrine buildup backing sound, with piano, percussion, horns, strings... and a backing chorus, but with a pleading raspy vocal style sounding more like a blues shouter. The record plays with noise, some hiss. This is important: This is a METAL BASED reference recording. A glass like acetone is covering the metal disc. The music is pressed into this glass/acetone covering. Reference recordings are designed for an artist or producer to LISTEN TO the recording on a player for ONLY a FEW TIMES, to determine what the recording sounded like. They are not meant for prolonged playing. This particular disc has two flakes missing on the front (see the scan) that go from the edge of the disc to the edge of the lead in of the track. The song plays through in it's entireity, but the needle has to be placed onto the lead in groove because of this flaking. There is currently NO flaking on the grooved music surface as of this writing. The reverse of this disc has SEVERAL flaked spots (see the scans I posted). But there is NO MUSIC on the reverse, so this didn't affect how the record will play. THIS WILL BE A FRAGILE ITEM, and will be packed in SEVERAL coverings of cardboard to insure it's safe arrival. It is being sold as an historic artifact. THIS IS A RARE ITEM.
I buy and sell collectible records locally, and at trade shows. The low minimum is only to generate a bid. It in no way represents the value of this item. If no bid occurs within a few days of this auction being placed, I reserve the right to remove it from the listing to sell it outright. So PLEASE.... bid EARLY. There is NO RESERVE on this item. The highest bidder wins it. (Ebay has been known to shut down for maintenance at certain times, so if you want this, bidding early assures your bid is made)
