In 1954, Chaloff signed to George Wein's Boston-based Storyville to cut The Fable of Mabel, recorded with local luminaries including alto saxophonist Charlie Mariano and trumpeter Herb Pomeroy, and a year later the label also issued his collaboration with altoist Boots Mussulli.Serge Chaloff and Boots Mussulli paired Chaloff with alto saxophonist Boots Mussulli in front of pianist Russ Freeman, bassist Jimmy Woode and drummer Buzzy Drootin. Recorded in Boston on June 9, 1954, this is a pleasant album of five creatively interpreted standards and one Chaloff original: "Zoot" was almost certainly named for Chaloff's section mate in the Woody Herman Orchestra, tenor saxophonist and Lester Young devotee Zoot Sims.

Cover is in wonderful shape. Edges are clean, no tears. Front of cover retains most if not all it's original gloss. Back of cover is clean with just a hint of aging. VG++

Record is glossy, and the fidelity is very strong, with some clicks in the play but no loss in overall sound quality. PLAY GRADED VG to VG++ depending on the cut. Labels on both sides are clean as new.

This record is part of a collectors estate including over 100 10" LP's (Jazz, Big Band, etc.) as well as many PROMO 12" Jazz LPS. This person took extreme care in the handling of these records, and most of the Jazz you'll see on my auction sight will be from that collection.

I will, upon request, supply the auction winner with an uncompressed ANALOG to DIGITAL archive transcription CD of this record for an additional fee of $10.00. This will be shipped with the record.

The CD fidelity is excellent, and closely matches that of the original vinyl recording. The benefit is that clicks and ticks are digitally removed resulting in a terrific audio experience that, even though you a listening to a CD you still get that "vinyl" sound, while preserving the record.
