Scream "Still Screaming"LP Test Pressing Dischord No. 9
DESCRIPTION: This is a rare, absolutely mint-condition test pressing of the first LP from Scream, "Still Screaming". Dischord Records No. 9, Washington, DC, January 1983. There are 20 songs on this record (RELEASED 25 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH!), and it is truly one of the best early hardcore/ska/punk/rock albums ever recorded. Vinyl record has blank labels on both sides (sometimes we'd get test pressings with stock labels from the pressing plant on both side, sometimes on just one side, and sometimes with blank white labels). White paper inner sleeve is yellowing, but certainly not from sunlight or anything ever having been spilled on it, as it has been safe inside the original, plain white cardboard jacket from the pressing plant since 1983. Handwritten in ball-point pen in upper right-hand corner of white cardboard jacket is simply "#9", and written in green pen on each side of the inner sleeve is "SCREAM".  All handwriting done by me, in 1983.  Only 100 of these test pressings were made, and most were sent to radio stations, fanzines, or given to band members, so it is very rare. This test pressing was never sent out, and has never been played, ever, poor thing.    I am also including a small flyer Dischord put out, advertising the upcoming Scream "Still Screaming" LP and Minor Threat's "Out of Step" 12" EP.  (Photos of final "Still Screaming" record are just to show what the final record looked like - that record is not part of this auction - this auction is just for the test pressing and little flyer)
HISTORY: Scream were an utterly amazing punk band from Bailey's Crossroads, Virginia (suburbs of DC) that, along with The Bad Brains, injected much musical sophistication into the DC scene, broadening many people's minds as to what musical styles could be mixed in with punk and hardcore (such as Rock, Ska, Reggae) while still retaining an urgent and underground feel. Every aspect of the band was great - great voice, melodies and lyrics - Pete Stahl. Great guitar and backing vocals - his brother, Franz Stahl. Masterful, muscular bass and vocals - Skeeter Thompson. Fluid, inventive, and driving drumming - Kent Stax. Later they became a 5-piece, with the addition of their friend Harley Davidson on second guitar. As superb a band as they were, however, and as well as their music has aged (meaning not at all), they will probably always be remembered for introducing Dave Grohl to the World. Dave drummed for them for their last two albums, and went on to join Nirvana and then to form Foo Fighters. Dave has always been very gracious in citing several early DC bands (including Scream, of course) as being major influences of his. Scream released 4 albums on Dischord Records, one on RAS records, among others. Band members went on to play in bands such as GoatSnake, Wool, The Suspects, United 121, Spitfires United, and Alleged Bricks.
CONDITION / PROVENANCE:  This record has never, ever been played.  White jacket is in perfect condition, no wear marks, but does have one stain, about the size of 1/2 a peanut. (see photo with penny for size comparison) However, stain is guaranteed to be collectible, as it is likely from bad 7-11 food consumed in Dischord House exactly 25 years ago!  Record is in mint condition.  It has been kept in a plastic sleeve away from light and dust for the last 26 years (same with the tour poster and small flyer). This record is unconditionally guaranteed to be original, from 1983.  It comes from my (Jeff Nelson - Minor Threat/Dischord Records) punk archives, which are being downsized after continuing to be described as "too big" and "insane" or containing "more than my potential kids or grandkids will ever want."  Please see my auction for lots of other punk/hardcore flyers and records as well as other jetsam I'll be putting up for sale......
