Originally released in 2006 and celebrating its 20th anniversary, Age Of Winters marked the much-adored debut album from Texas stoner-doom rock heroes The Sword. Arriving at a similar time to the likes of High On Fire, Wolfmother and Witchcraft, the band became synonymous with the burgeoning "retro-metal" movement that saw an earnest repopularising of the guitar riff, bluesy and jagged, while the band's psych-tinged doom grooves would pay respectful homage to genre pioneers Black Sabbath as well as musical offspring contemporaries Sleep and Clutch, but with the shameless retro blues swagger of Led Zeppelin or Thin Lizzy at their most raucous. The album is also notable for featuring the band's most well-known single 'Freya', which would later appear on Guitar Hero II.
