Description
Here is where Rock and Roll began: Chuck Berry's first EP ever from back in 1957.
Great cover art of an extremely young looking Chuck playing his guitar inside a school bell, surrounded by chalkboard grafitti.
Cover is in excellent condition with extremely light wear for a 50 year old record.
Sharp corners and no seam splits.
Vinyl is near mint with minor surface scuffs that don't affect play. One long angel hair surface scuff on side 1 which also does not affect play.
This is a Canadian pressing, approximately ten times as rare as the impossible to find American pressing.
Cover says Chess EP 5118. In microscopic letters in the lower right corner it says "Printed in Canada".
Label is a super rare Quality label in red and cream. Label number is XP-134.
Legendary songs include:
"School Day", which later became "School Days", featuring the line "Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll!" which served as the title for the Chuck Berry documentary movie.
"Wee Wee Hours", which Bruce Springsteen mentioned in his song "Brilliant Disguise".
"Too Much Monkey Business", which many people call the first rap song. This was the inspiration for Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues".
And "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man", another classic and a very early song about racism covered by Buddy Holly.
All in all, this EP is a very rare and enjoyable piece of rock and roll history.Thanks for looking. I also have another rare Chuck Berry EP listed. In fairness to all bidders, I do not end auctions early.
