White Collar Worker
People have been after me for YEARS to start kicking loose some of the great and important punk records I accumulated over the years. I tried selling this once and the buyer was a total flake, so here it goes again – a second shot at this rarity! This one is the legendary "White Collar Worker" / "Armed Robbery" single from the Dot Vaeth Group. Back in the days right after the Sex Pistols played Dallas (Jan 10, 1978) our own local punk bands started coming out of the closets. There still was hardly a single place to play, but there they were. A few even made records.
The Dot Vaeth group started out with crap instruments and were all attitude, and little else. At the time they were a trio of David and Doug Townsend plus James Flory. After a while, they Pat Conley and Byron joined the group, they upgraded their instruments, moved their practices to a storage building (complaints from the parents at home!) and soon Bryce Parker III was there talking them into cutting a record for his fledgling ESR label/studio.
The single was one of the first true PUNK records in Texas and the band sold them wherever they could. It was 1978 and if they asked 'Are we too late for the trend?" the answer would be "No, you're ahead of the rest.
The single barely sold and now, some 27 years later it's among the rarest of the rare in Texas punk singles. Naturally, it was collected in the KBD (Killed By Death) compilations, and is growing increasing hard to find. This is a vintage pressing that's complete with the insert, a perfect record and sleeve and a one-owner pedigree (George Gimarc – author of Punk Diary, and host of the R&R Alternative radio show on KZEW in the 1980s.
