Description
Up for auction is one of the rarest Tejano LP's on the Planet, and if you are a serious collector of Tejano music, this highly collectible promo LP is a must for your important record collection. I don't think that a promo copy of this LP by Rocky Hernandez has ever been sold on eBay...that's how rare it is! Rocky Hernandez recorded this awsome album in 1972 on the Buena Suerte Records label (his brother Little Joe's record label). The title is TRISTE PENSAMIENTO, and the songs on it are as "old school" Tejano as it gets! The fact that this LP is a promo record makes it even more special, and to add icing to the cake, this LP was a part of the archives of radio station WMUK on the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, so it was very well taken care of...have a look at the lower right corner of the back cover, and you'll see the WMUK stamp.
The cover receives a grade of VG+, only because there are a few areas where the color has rubbed off, and the corners have a bit of wear. There are no splits on the seams, and the colors are very vivid. The back of the cover has "NOT FOR SALE" stamped all over it, and there is a WMUK archive sticker "CS-A31" that wraps from the front to the back near the top. I chose to leave the sticker in place, as it further validates that this record was actually in the archives of WMUK. The labels receive a grade of VG+, as there is a small bit of the label that is missing at the bottom of the B side, and there is an ink mark in front of #6, OJITOS NEGROS, also on the B side. Were it not for these two things, the labels would have received a grade of MINT, as they look as if they were printed last week. The vinyl receives a grade of VG++, as it looks as if it has only been played a few times, and there are only a few rub marks from pulling the record out of the sleeve. The sound also receives a grade of VG++, as there is minimal background noise, and to even hear that, you have to focus on the background noise, and not the music.
Ten of the twelve songs are sung by Rocky, with the eleventh (MORIR POR TU AMOR) being sung by Rocky's father, and the twelfth (PIRISWIRIS) being an instrumental. Rocky's rendition of PRIETA LINDA is KILLER, and you can even hear Little Joe in the background throwing a few of his trademark "gritos" in the song...this rendition of Prieta Linda should have been the hit song...that's how good it is! And OJITOS NEGROS and POCO A POCO made me take "a stroll down memory lane." The entire album is awesome, and the winner of this incredible LP will be very happy with his purchase. You can hear songs by Rocky on youtube.com by searching "Rocky Hernandez." I know that Rocky's brothers, Little Joe and Johnny, received all the credit and fame as the lead singers of The Latinaires and later La Familia, but I've got to tell you that Rocky would have absoulutely no problem holding his own in a contest with his big brothers...anytime!
I offer a "no questions asked" money back guarantee, but you will not want a refund on this treasure. I only accept PayPal as payment, and thanks for your interest.
Additional note: A collector requested that I add an image of a close-up of the radio station stamp to this listing. You can also see the "NOT FOR SALE" stamp in red letters in the image. Thanks again for your interest.
