SUNN O))) Altar 3xLP Picture Disc MINT stunning BORIS

This auction is for a complete and mint copy of the Sunn O))) and Boris Album "Altar". This particular release is a limited picture disc 3xLP run, beautifully packaged with each vinyl in its own black printed sleeve. all of which is contained in a high-quality gatefold and full color booklet insert. It was limited to just 500 copies that were made available to people who attended the Sunn O))) and Boris concert that happened in London this past December (2007). It is out of print and never to be repressed.

Aesthetically, this gatefold issue is itself a work of art and is an homage to the collectability and beauty of well-designed vinyl releases. With the shiny gold trim of the text on the booklet and gatefold printing, as well as the lush and evocative colors of the live-performance photographs that adorn the picture discs (every side of all three vinyls is a different image), this is sure to be a collector's item that will only go up in value.

And should you choose to (gasp!) listen to it? Well then you know what you are in for! Although this copy is mint and unplayed, I know from my personal copy that emotional, feedback-laden, melancholy doom music dominates this release. These two bands are masters of their craft and are already legends, with each release further cementing their legacy. Of interest to people who are fans of Merzbow, Whitehouse, Black Metal, the Melvins, Sonic Youth, and any experimental and introspective music. Try listening to it on a loud system with proper subwoofers - this album will terrify you!

This triple lp was issued in shrink wrap, which I opened for the first time while taking the pictures you see in this auction. Note the sticker explaining that this was limited to 500 releases in the upper right hand corner. Due to the inevitable effect of shrinkwrap on all vinyl releases, a slight inward curve of the corners is minor yet noticeable. Anyone who is honest and who owns this vinyl would have to attest to this fact: no record is ever completely mint. However, this is as damn near mint as it gets. Also notice the pictures, which I included, which show a small split along the inner sleeves for one of the vinyls. This split is evident BEFORE I opened the shrink wrap. Upon further inspection, it is only on the black sleeve insert and not the gatefold itself. Again, an unfortunate result when three super heavy records are each put in snug sleeves, which in turn are shoved in tight-fitting pockets of a gatefold release. Again, I'm just laying it all out here but remember that in a world where absolutely nothing is perfect, this copy sets the bar for what counts as 'mint' for this release, given unfortunate limitations in manufacturing and packaging.

Shipping rates are firm: $15 to ship this record anywhere in the continental USA. For the rest of the world, shipping is $38. Although this is one release, keep in mind that it is comprised of three very thick and heavy records in elaborate packaging, and that I will go to great lengths in my own packaging to make sure that it arrives to you in the condition in which I have it. I am a record collector myself, and I don't just shove records in mailers and then recklessly send them out. My feedback as a record collector, both selling and buying, is solid. The rates are not negotiable. If you do not like the terms, just don't bid - with this rare release I am sure it will find a happy home quickly.
