An overall very good condition and highly presentable copy of this increasingly extremely rare and highly sought after 1969 UK 1st press prog/psych gem on the iconic DERAM NOVA label, STEREO, SDN 7

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   XZAL-9059.P-3W with the stampers "1" and "D" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively and the "JT" tax code at 5.30 o'clock

Side 2   XZAL-9060.P-3W with the stampers "1" and "U" at 8.30 o'clock and 2.30 o'clock respectively and the "JT" tax code at 11.30 o'clock

The overall condition of the vinyl is very good (VG). Completely flat and nicely weighty, each side of the vinyl is glossy and has retained a nice jet black sheen but there are a number of hairlines and light surface scratches, and occasional light scuff marks, on each side, each appearing to be superficial and non-feelable apart from x3 small scratches on side 1 which are just feelable : one is 5mm and straddles tracks A1 and A2, another is 5mm on track A3, and the other is 7mm on track A6 and each results in some mild clicking (but to sticking or jumping). On side 1 the hairline and scuffs are slightly more prominent and I would grade side 1 as VG- and side 2 as VG+.

The labels are excellent (EX). Just a couple of extremely light marks on each label along with x2 extremely faint spindle trails on each, otherwise perfect with the silver text upon the red/orange background and the "DERAM nova" logo coming across as iconically impressive as ever. 

The condition of the impressive front-laminated Senol Printing outer sleeve is excellent (EX). The edges and corners are nicely defined and firm, as is the spine, all of the colours have retained their vibrancy, and the gorgeous front-side art work, reverse side photos and text each remain impressively intact. Each corner is a well defined right angle with minimal scuffing only, the spine remains beautifully intact with all text perfectly legible and just a single 4mm light nick/scuff mark to the left of the "D" in "DERAM", and the opening side remain form with no fraying whatsoever. There is just a hint of some very mild ring wear towards the top edge on the front side (only visible when the sleeve is tilted to the right angle in a good light), and some very mild shelf wear/grubbiness towards the edge on the reverse side (very trivial). Hard to believe that this beautiful outer sleeve is now 52 years of age.

The audio quality is overall very good (VG).  Great tone and clarity with no distortion even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No sticks, jumps, repeats, nasty clicks or interference, and any background crackle is very occasional and light. But there is mild clicking...on side 1 there is some light rotational background crackle on A1 which spills over onto A2 where there is also some light clicking towards the end of this track and during most of A3. A4 has x2 light clicks towards the end, A6 has some light clicking and light rotational clicking during the first two thirds of this track, and there is some light clicking during the first third of A8. On side 2 there are x27 very light (but audible) clicks at the beginning of B2 and the odd light click occurring sporadically on the remainder of the side 2 tracks. Hopefully you get the picture - if you're looking for a copy of this rare LP with perfect (or even excellent) audio reproduction then this copy is not for you. Having said that, there are no sticks or repeats and taken as a whole the LP remains a very good listen. Upon reflection I would grade the sound quality as VG- for side 1 and a solid VG for side 2.

Comes complete with excellent condition poly-lined blue and white inner sleeve with no seam splits, tears, fraying, age discolouration or obvious creasing. Note that I always insert the vinyl into a separate new poly-lined inner sleeve for shipping purposes and in order to protect the original.

A welcome addition to any serious vinyl collection - rock, prog, psych, folk...call it what you like it's all here and will only continue to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
