BEATLES Mega RARE!

 

This is an extremely rare copy of the Sundown Playboys 78  RPM   10" release "Saturday Night Special" on the Beatles' own APPLE label.  Although it's a fantastic piece of Cajun music, obviously it's value lies in the fact it came out on the Apple label.

 

Generally reckoned to one of the very rarest of the Apple records, I believe that the record was never sold in the shops and was just produced for promotional reasons (since it would have been very difficult to play without the right equipment).  The number of copies available is anyone's guess, but given the fact it is only offered for sale once in a blue moon, my guess would be 100-200 copies only.

 

If you want to see how little is known, just google search it and see how little response you get!  

 

Since I don't believe one has been sold on Ebay before this may be your only opportunity to purchase this item.

Condition:

 

The Label

 

is unmarked (apart from some slight glue marks on the edge) and (unsurprisingly) there are no spindle marks.  It is heavily textured.

 

The Record

 

Side 1 is in NEAR MINT condition apart from a small scratch (about 1cm) near the edge.  The overall appearance of this side is bright and shiny.

 

Side 2 is in EXCELLENT condition.  It has a few marks which ought not to sound if you play it (if you're so inclined!).  Again the overall appearance of this side is bright and shiny.

 

The Cover

 

One side is in EXCELLENT condition.  It has been slightly creased and has suffered some fading at the edge, although nothing too serious.  There is a half centimetre rip at the top.

 

The other side is in VERY GOOD condition.  It is more creased and also suffers from some edge fading.  The most serious detail is that are two rips from the center to the edge, about 5 cms apart which makes a flap of paper.  To view, look at the scan of the "Valse de Soleil Coucher" side where it shows clearly.  Obviously when lying flat it is less visible.
