Description
I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Here's a 1973 PRESSING of SUN RA'S LP ATLANTIS. IMPULSE LABEL AS9239 . An LP that Sun Ra makes good use of a Clavinet, and with the great John Gilmore on Tenor sax and percussion. This was originally released in 69, and Impulse re released this 3 years later to reach a wider audience. The LP has some minimal surface sounds, and the cover front, inside gatefold, and back suffers from spotty moisture residue.
[The title track Atlantis is] one of Ra's most epic pieces, which is free or 'space' jazz at its most invigorating. While virtually indescribable, the sonic churnings and juxtaposed images reveal a brilliant display of textures and tonalities set against an ocean of occasional rhythms. Its diversity alone makes this is an essential entry in the voluminous Sun Ra catalog.
