Sun Ra “Live in Paris at the Gibus”

 

French Atlantic 40 540  (matrix # 40540 A / B) – original copy from 1975, released in France only and according to Sun Ra’s friend and discographer Hartmut Geerken this was a very limited release of something like only 300 copies, so it is as scarce as some of the very rare original Saturns – and here is a rare opportunity to hear this music from that close to the master tape

 

LP is clean with light (and inaudible) paper-sleeve marks and superficial hailines – it plays well with only mild crackle in a few quiet places – so in about EX- to EX condition.  The cover, printed with an ink very sensitive to rubbing, has notable shelf-, edge- and corner wear (see photos), but no writing and the seams still intact – so probably still VG.  

 

This LP’s tracks are recorded in October 1973 at the “Gibus” club, in Paris. The Arkestra’s performance is stellar, the opening Spontaneous Simpliciy one of several standout tracks – why this album was released only in France and in such a tiny run is a mystery …

 

I only charge for the actual cost of shipping :  packaged under 500g, by regular Air Mail $7.50 to the US and $13 to Europe, Japan or elsewhere, and which can include a basic insurance for up to 100 Can$ (= about $78) if that value is declared on the package.  I can give several other options to the winner.
