KARLHEINZ STOCKHAUSEN / LUCIANO BERIO / PIERRE BOULEZ / OLIVIER MESSIAEN

LE DOMAINE MUSICAL DE PIERRE BOULEZ LP

Ades

Gatefold cover

Legendary concert from the late 50's featuring some of the most pioneer composition of the time from Stockhausen, Berio, Boulez, Messiaen.

Some info on the release: Second pressing of this originally late 50's album released on the french Ades label (that released the records of Edgar Varese, Jean-Etienne Marie and Gilbert Amy, Michel Redolfi, Pierre Schaeffer, Horatiu Radulescu and others)!! The original pressing is as you imagine quite more hard to find (and especially in good condition), so here's a chance to compromise with this 80's repress.

This one was the first record of the famous orchestra/festival of the Domaine Musical from Paris, one of the first orchestra (if not the first) to specialize only in "new music" by performing over +100 works in the course of its' history by composers Karlheinz Stockhausen, Luciano berio, Luigi Nono, Gyorgy Ligeti and Schoenberg, Strawinsky, Webern, Hans Werner Henze, while between the performers have appeared names like those of Pierre Boulez, Quatuor Parrenin, Yvonne Loriod and Claude Hellfer, Hermann Scherchen and others.

On the cover a reproduction of the original cover art by the surrealist Richard Mortensen.

Stockhausen's works had a powerful influence on the subsequent development of electronic music in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly in the work of the Italian Franco Evangelisti and the Poles Andrzej Dobrowolski and W?odzimierz Koto?ski (Skowron 1981, 39). French composer Jean-Claude Éloy regards Stockhausen as the most important composer of the second half of the twentieth century, and cites virtually "all his catalog of works" as "a powerful discoveration [sic], and a true revelation". Dutch composer Louis Andriessen acknowledged the influence of Stockhausen's Momente in his pivotal work Contra tempus of 1968 (Schönberger 2001). German composer Wolfgang Rihm, who studied with Stockhausen, was influenced by Momente, Hymnen, and Inori (Williams 2006, 382). Jazz musicians such as Miles Davis (Bergstein 1992), Cecil Taylor, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Yusef Lateef (Feather 1964; Tsahar 2006), and Anthony Braxton (Radano 1993, 110) cite Stockhausen as an influence.  At the Cologne ISCM Festival in 1960, the Danish composer Per Nørgård heard Stockhausen's Kontakte as well as pieces by Kagel, Boulez, and Berio. He was profoundly affected by what he heard and his music suddenly changed into "a far more discontinuous and disjunct style, involving elements of strict organization in all parameters, some degree of aleatoricism and controlled improvisation, together with an interest in collage from other musics". In the 1950s and early 1960s, Stockhausen published a series of articles that established his importance in the area of music theory. Although these include analyses of music by Mozart, Debussy, Bartók, Stravinsky and Goeyvaerts, Johannes Fritsch, Michael von Biel, and, especially, Webern.

Condition: Cover lies in mint- condition, with nearly new, while the vinyl lies in very good+ condition, on one side has a couple of stains which look like fingermarks, but which can be heard, while on the other side, there is a rather not very good looking mark, but it does not affect play, other than that there is some slight crackle in places, an overall vg+ condition.
