STEELY DAN "ROYAL SCAM" LP ACETATE! EXTREMELY RARE!



EXTREMELY RARE acetate for Steely Dan's classic LP "The Royal Scam". Acetates are always rare due to the fact that so few of them are ever distributed outside a small circle of people involved with the making of a specific album, usually just the musicians and the producer. They are used as a reference for the artist to make a final determination about the recorded work that they have been working on. On occasion, if the artist has misgivings about what he or she hears on the acetate, the performer will re-record or remix the album and the acetate will differ from the final release. Rarely does an acetate stray from the hands of one of these musicians BUT HERE IT IS! It is unlikely that you will EVER see another acetate from this secretive duo offered for sale. If you are a serious fan of messrs. Fagen and Becker, then you NEED this item.

The acetate is in surprisingly excellent condition in light of its age of almost 30 yars: there is only light wear visible.

Ever the primary conceit of mainstays Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, 1976's The Royal Scam marks the first time the Steely Dan duo actually owned up to the fact. Musically, it's their edgiest, most guitar-driven record (thanks to Becker and a murderer's row of session greats that includes Larry Carlton, Elliot Randall, Dean Parks, and Denny Dias). Lyrically, the songs cut an ever-sardonic, presciently discomforting slice of modern life that was a couple decades ahead of the game (who else was extolling the virtues of condom-couture, à la "The Fez," mid-Me Decade?). Though it didn't garner the radio attention of Aja, its more jazz-suffused, multiplatinum follow-up, Scam boasts a diverse, occasionally muscular musical rhetoric and some of the Dan's most telling portraits (the deranged, yet all-too-familiar killer of "Don't Take Me Alive," "Kid Charlemagne"'s drug-culture celebrity, the tropical convenience of a "Haitian Divorce"). RECORD GRADING POLICY

MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale

NEAR MINT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play

VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially effect play

VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.

VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.

VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.

Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like

Fair = you’re getting this record just to own but not to play

Poor = the sky’s the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest
