As much as "holy grail" is bandied about in terms of records for sale on the internet, this is one time to use such a term with utter safety.  Monty Stark's group released this classic rarity on Ahmad Jamal's label in 1970, it's been sampled quite a few times, obsessed over by more than just beat/rap sample collectors, written about in Wax Poetics, and reissued in several forms on Stone's Throw.  But this is the original. The good news is that this copy might be one of the more affordable ways to get an original copy, since the wax is in EXCELLENT (NM-) shape, but the jacket has some staining and wear.

THE RECORDS are still pretty glossy and I have cleaned them to accurately grade them, using good light. These two over 30-year-old records only show one mark, a paper sleeve scuff on side one, but this is not serious at all. EVERY other side is clean and bears no scuffs nor scratches. All 4 center labels are clean with no writing or tears.  These records have not been abused or heavily handled at all.

THE JACKET shows moderate staining, NO water damage, but minor ringwear on front of gatefold, price decal residue upper right, and the lower left bears a spot where a decal was removed and lifted off the paper off the jacket. See photo. Rear cover shows more of the tan staining, right, upper middle and upper right, and an sniped decal reading "Distributed by Ampex Stereo Tapes" center bottom. There are NO seam splits, and only a tiny bit of wear on the bottom corner of the spine. Overall, the jacket was stored badly, but the staining/rubbing wear is the most that the jacket has seen. The actual jacket structure is strong and sound.  Inside the gatefold, the staining is far less evident, and the adhered inner panel is in good shape. There is minor to moderate corner wear, but nothing unusual for a record of this age that was not kept in a vaccuum or extremely well protected.

Reserve is reasonable for a record that goes for between 700-1000 for a cleaner jacket copy. I repeat, the records on this copy are in NM- shape.  I WILL NOT REMOVE THIS AUCTION, please do not ask.  This is a great chance to get an excellent copy of the Stark Reality record for a fair price due to the condition of the jacket.  Any questions or further images needed, feel free to ask.  And if you need to know more about this record, there's material written about it all over the internet--- I'm not putting this out there as a figment of my imagination.
