It is true that Dusty Springfield made a trip to America in search of making a soul album that she had been longing for, but unfortunately, Dusty In Memphis turned out to be a flop upon its release. Luckily for history, it took matters into its own hands. 'Son Of A Preacher Man' is undoubtedly the standout number and remains Dusty's obvious calling card, but 'Breakfast In Bed', as well as Randy Newman's 'I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore', show just how convincingly Springfield slipped into the Memphis sound, helped in no small part by the contributions of the Memphis Boys and the Sweet Inspirations.
