For sale here is “SPRING” by SPRING, 1971 UK ORIGINAL PRESSING.
RCA NEON: NE6, Year of release 1971, Matrix #s AGBS 0521 A-1 /AGBS 0522 B-1, triple gatefold.
I believe this to be a 1st press or a 1st year original of a very rare 1971 English record, in excellent shape particularly considering it is almost 39 years old.
Adding the original triple gatefold of this limited release featuring a (3x mellotron sonic assault) is an itch few collectors will ever scratch.
Sleeve: triple gate-fold and un-laminated. VERY GOOD general condition. The bottom edges are in GOOD condition with some wear on the bottom corners. The top edges are in VERY GOOD condition: slight scuffing on the corners. The front is EXCELLENT condition with slight visible wear on the bottom edges of the sleeve and a small scratch visible when held to the light. The brilliant vivid colour of the red on green and the soldier’s blood in the river is still looking great after 39 years.
The inside has some speckling, particularly in the middle panel, and signs of glue marks in the bottom right of the left panel and bottom left of the right panel: VERY GOOD condition. The back is also in VERY GOOD condition with a single crease mark on one panel and a score on the other.
There is no non-original writing, no stickers and no staining.
The vinyl is in EXCELLENT condition with minimal crackles and plays beautifully with the percussion and guitar sounding particularly deep and crisp. It looks superb. The Botticelli label (a side) is mint. There is a slight spindle mark on the b side.
The inner sleeve is the original RCA black polythene lined. The polythene lining is loose and needs reattaching.
GRADING GUIDE
MINT
The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR
The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD
The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
