Description
You are bidding on three 16-inch vinyl radio transcription discs containing three 15 minute “Here’s To Vets” radio programs featuring Spike Jones and The City Slickers.
#91 “Spike Jones Spotlight Revue”. The first tune is “Who’s Sorry Now?” Paul Judson and Paul Frees sing “My Old Flame.” Spike Jones and The City Slickers, Paul Judson, Paul Frees, George Rock, Purvis Pullen (as Dr. Horatio Q. Birdbath), Mike Wallace (announcer). 15 minutes.
#139 “The Spike Jones Show”. Doodles Weaver sings a very, very funny and clever, “The Barber of Seville,” with lyrics like: “Hey you, what’s the idea! We’re playing the blues and you’re playing a concerto!” 15 minutes. On the reverse is the program #140, “The Jack Smith Show.” 15 minutes.
#227 “Spike Jones.” The first tune is “Cocktails for Two,” a very funny “Chinese Mule Train.” Spike Jones and The City Slickers, Doodles Weaver, George Rock, Freddie Morgan, Solly Van (vocal), Gil Bert (vocal), Ingrid Blast (organ), Paul Loo (piano). 15 minutes. On the reverse is #226 with the program “Frankie Carle”, 15 minutes.
The discs are in very good to excellent condition with excellent sound.
These recordings are from the estate collection of a radio broadcaster and producer who hosted his own jazz show while serving in the military.
