THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP THEIR FIRST LP ORIGINAL 1st PRESS (1L // 1 & 2L//1 STAMPER CODES) VINYL LP IN LAMINATED SLEEVE
Sleeve Condition: Ex++: one, very light laminate crease is about the only thing preventing a Near Mint grade. The laminate is still bright and shiny, the corners sharp and the entire sleeve is free from writing, marking, stickers, defect or damage. The rear is remarkably clean. Normally, dead white unlaminated rear sleeves like this are marked, soiled or at least showing rubbing wear. This is a lovely example, front and back
Record Condition: Ex: There are some very, very light, surface only marks to Side 2, and to be fair, this side really only looks Vg+ though it certainly plays Ex. The marks are purely cosmetic and there is no tracking or aural disturbance whatsoever with no evidence of groove distortion, or intrusive background ssh or snap crackle or pop. The music is loud and clear and the record plays fine throughout both sides.
I had a tough time deciding not to keep this one. The music is fantastic, raw and crackling with energy and at the same time, tight and sharply delivered. The album is basically a reflection of their early repertoire and very heavy on the R&B/soul standards. Dominated by covers of Ike & Tina Turner, the Coasters, John Lee Hooker, Little Walter, Brenda Holloway, and others, although three of the tunes are original. Two of these are written by Stevie Winwood, the other by Spencer Davis; Winwood's mid-tempo soul number "It Hurts Me So" is easily the best of them.
