This is the extremely rare 1958 second pressing of one of the all-time greatest jazz masterpiece albums, Saxophone Colossus, by Sonny Rollins. This pressing has the New Jersey address on the label but the W 50th St. NY address on the cover. The cover is identical to the first pressing issues, and the label and masters are the same except for the Jersey address. Rudy Van Gelder's initials are in the runoff, and as is the case with any of his productions, this album sounds absolutely unreal. A totally fantastic record, as you all know... but hearing the original pressing is beyond words. This copy has some scuffs and marks, but I cleaned it professionally and it sounds incredibly good. There is barely a single crackle on the whole record, though it does appear very faintly in a few places, but is never very obtrusive. I would say it plays E-, if not better. The cover, as you can see, has some wear, mainly seam splits at the top and bottom, and tape that someone put on a long time ago... but the surface is still shiny, the spine is still intact, and the image is still beautiful. This is a wonderful copy, despite its imperfections. Nearly impossible to find a disc in better listening condition.
