When the Miracles were in their prime, which was between the years of 1960 and 1964, nothing - and no one - could even come close in terms of sheer expressiveness, vocal acrobatics , pure joy, good humor and soulfulness of their performances. If your songs are covered by Beatles, Rolling Stones, Linda Ronstadt and practically everyone else, and Bob Dylan himself proclaims you one of the biggest American poets of the XX century…I mean, how much better can you get?

Miracles, and that gorgeous, smooth voice of William "Smokie" Robinson, were a defining moment in the transition from the doo-wop group vocal sound of the 1950's to the grittier, more soulful, R&B-oriented sound of the sixties. The early hits, many of which remain unknown to the world at large, while others regrettably fell by the wayside in the course of time, remain the best examples of their unadorned, simply elegant (and elegantly simple) gospel-laden Rhythm and Blues, with some icing on the cake in the form of that irreplaceable falsetto of William “Smokey” Robinson. This indispensable, critical, 2-LP greatest hits anthology was issued in early 1965 EVEN BEFORE THEY SCORED THEIR BIGGEST, HIGHEST CHARTING HITS, like: 'Tracks of my tears' or 'Going to a go-go'. If you are not willing to spend up to $600.00 for the near mint copy of their first few albums, this anthology is perfect for you. This set collects practically every worthwhile vocal performance Miracles did in the pivotal first four years of their existence - and if you don't trust me, ask the Beatles, who did a survivable version of "You've really got a hold on me". Still, nothing beats the original. Not even the Fab Four. To the best of my best knowledge, this is the first double album in the history of Motown Records, Inc.

(c)           The records are apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          All stereo pressings have record one in fake (“electronically rechannelled”) stereo, and record 2 in true stereo)

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
