SLAUGHTER-"Strappado" FRINGE Records (Canada) c.1987 Cat: FPL-3028
COVER: NEAR MINT. LP: VG (has been played a few times)
Up for grabs - the original pressing of Canadian cult thrashers SLAUGHTER's classic album "Strappado". Still in shrinkwrap after 25 years. AUTOGRAPHED by Terry Sadler (Bass, bv) and Dave Hewson (Guitar, Lead Vocals). Comes with a 3-page June 1987 Slaughter newsletter with a handwritten letter from Dave Hewson:
"Hello Tomas, Here are the LP covers autographed! Only me and Dave signed them since we're the only ones still in SLAUGHTER who played on the LP. We're no longer in contact with Ron Sumners so he can't (and he probably wouldn't) sign it. I think only 10 people have ever Ron's autograph. On the sheet of paper we all signed it - the new drummer etc. On august 13, 1987 it will be SLAUGHTERS 3rd anniversary. Thanx /Terry Sadler SLAUGHTER Aug. 13th, 1987."
The piece of paper Terry mentions in this letter is NOT included in the auction.
However, winning bidder will recieve this hand written letter as a proof of authentency. (SEE PICTURE)
Side A: Strappado, The curse, Disintegrater, Incinerator, Parasites
Side B: F.O.D. (Fuck of death), Tortured souls, Nocturnal hell, Tales of the macabre
Slaughter were a real cult band already in their time. Strappado is a complete representation of this Canadian legend's original style, a piece of extremely heavy and pounding thrash metal. At average, these songs are not very fast except for a couple of tracks, and most of the time Slaughter tend to sound like a thrashier version of Celtic Frost, in both good and bad. While fully heavy and gruff, sometimes their sound gets a bit too simple and plodding. The best pieces like Curse and the title track are very nasty and effective, while the rest has some rough charm of its own as well. One cannot help but feel that on the whole this album is not quite as spectacular as you might expect based on its cult status only, however, a certain level of vintage sound just adds to the experience. In the end Strappado remains one of the more essential albums from the old times.
This LP has been out of print for many years.
Both LP and cover looks great. I would say M-/VG throughout. It has been stored in a cool, dry shelf for 25 years. It has maybe been played a few times!
