SLAM MODE

The Acoustic Sessions EP

Tribal Winds US

12" Cat: TW 053
Rel: 23 Feb 26
Balearic/Downtempo Side 1. Mojo Side 2. Fertile Ground

Having released their first records way back in 1991, Slam Mode are one of US deep house's longest-serving duos (though, it should be noted, they started as a trio). For much of that time, they've been aligned with the Ibadan and Sacred Rhythm crews, delivered percussive and spiritual music. They're in that mode on The Acoustic Sessions, delivering two slabs of warming, musically expansive house music built around live percussion, keys and bass. 'Mojo' sets the tone, with elongated electric piano solos dancing atop Latin-fired deep house beats and undulating double bass. They push things further towards Joe Clausell and Osunlade territory on 'Fertile Ground', upping the tempo and hard percussion count whilst reaching for atmospheric vibraphone and synth solos.
