A SCARCE RECORDING OF SONGS FROM THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

SIT-IN SONGS: "SONGS OF THE FREEDOM RIDERS

Dauntless, Audio Fidelity DS 4601, 1962

In Original jacket and sleeve. Excellent vinyl

Sponsored by the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE)

Description: Here is a very nice 1962 recording of singing by the Freedom Riders, issued by the Congress of Racial Equality in 1962 as part of the civil rights movement.  Most songs are sung by a devotional choir (the record doesn't say who specifically, but says that "Many of those who are singing...here had just come out of jail before the record was cut." The material is a mix of folk, protest, and gospel songs, some with words altered to match the sit-in movement.

Contents includes:  SIDE ONE: Certainly Lord; Which Side are You On; Hallelujah, I'm a Traveling; Hold On; I Woke up This Morning; Do You Want Your Freedom. SIDE TWO: Get Your Rights Jack; I Know We'll Meet Again; We Went Down to Mississippi; How Did You Feel; Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore; We Shall Overcome.

Condition: Vinyl is in excellent condition with no notable scratches or marks. I have played the lp on a good turntable (B&O Linear tracking) and the surface noise is extremely low with very scattered crackles, no skips or pops. I have not vacuum-cleaned the LP, but sound quality is very good. (A sample is linked on this page). The jacket is only in VG to G+ condition--it is very clean on the front and only has slight handling soil on the back, but the top edge is split almost all the way (See Photos and audio sample). Using Ebay’s Suggested LP Grading Scale . You can hear a short selection from "We Shall Overcome" from side 2 and judge for yourself  on the vinyl before making an offer by Clicking here.

I have other classical, jazz, blues, bluegrass, and folk albums from my vinyl collection that I will be listing in the next few weeks as I reduce my collection. Please inquire if you have any requests.
