Description

This is the ORIGINAL, very rare first issue of Shirley Collins and The Albion Country Band's "No Roses" LP.
Released in 1971 on Pegasus (after a change from B&C - see below), the LP was highly regarded, but sold poorly.
Pegasus only lasted a year or so before being forced to close down because of a legal challenge to their use of the name 'Pegasus'. Artists and albums were transferred to the Mooncrest label, which reissued No Roses a few years later.
I bought my copy late in 1971, just after I'd received my student grant (those were the days etc...)!
Oddly, I never really took to it - I bought it mainly because it had Richard Thompson listed on the front cover. I was by then far more into Fairport's more rock version of folk, and as I didn't really like Collins' voice either, it was never played very often (although I did like the two songs featuring Murder....).
So, this copy is in truly excellent condition, as I've tried to show in the photographs I've posted, from different angles and in varying light.
It has barely been off my record shelves for the last 40 years, usually only when I've moved.
As well as the vinyl, the cover has also survived the years very well, and the inside of the gatefold sleeve is almost pristine.

It was originally intended to be released on the B&C Records label, and it has the B&C matrix stamped in and then crossed out.
The new Pegasus matrix is stamped in beneath it.
