Shadowplay -- The Camp Of The Saints LP
Original 1989 US private pressing on Shadowplay Records (catalog # 9x317), with lyric/photo fold-out insert, separate bio sheet with some detailed band info.Rare and completely obscure private press post-punk darkwave LP from this Joy Division inspired band from Everett, Mass, just north of Boston.
Shadowplay are a duo: Peter Odd and Robert Belvedere, who started playing together in 1979 in James Straight And The Bureaucrats, a band that played with Mission Of Burma at The Underground in 1980. Odd and Belvedere also played in Boston punk/post-punk/wave bands Shocks & Struts, Beach Party Syndrome, Kalvin Kooledge, Red Tape, No Smoking, World Citizens and Doppler Effect.
This LP is solid 1980-style dark and gloomy post-punk, heavy Joy Division and Factory Records influence, with synth but more of a hard-edged punk guitar sound. Also has echoes of West Coast goth-punk bands like later Middle Class, Drowning Pool, Kommunity FK, Fourwaycross, etc. The back cover features the band posing under a crypto-Throbbing Gristle symbol.
